HerzogEdge™

I started training back in January of 2006. I’ve maintained this consistency completely. And completely alone. I chose this seclusion for a variety of reasons not least which was not wanting to grow dependent on any other person such that their excuse for not showing up impacted my goals. I wanted to see what I could become all by myself and, so doing, fell in love with the solitude.
The first day I met Ryan was also the first day I ever spoke to anyone at my gym. We became friends almost immediately and, thanks to that, began working out together. What a new world for me. Suddenly finding myself taking direction from another person was, I have to admit, very unnerving. I didn’t like it. At first. But I had no problem suspending that insecurity in light of Ryan’s knowledge and expertise. Which is putting it mildly. Herzog can claim what ‘personal trainers’ wish they could: CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist), as well as a background in the military that I won’t go into here…but which would put the fear of God in you if I did.
His website HerzogEdge.com will be launching very soon and I’m going to be referring to it often. Training with Ryan has changed me inside and out. Because Ryan Herzog is from Hell.
And I happen to love Hell.
‘Just Do It’ is Just Stupid

Alright, Official Disclaimer: I get it. Okay? I get it. I’ve a professional background steeped in marketing and design. So I get it. The world-wide clarion call to ‘Just Do It’ and the billions and billions of dollars it’s generated can’t be dismissed. To say nothing of the millions of lives it’s motivated to get up off the couch and into action.
It’s the mindset I take issue with. The mindset that comes with the slogan is arguably one of the top five brandings on the planet and, as such, is recruited to inspire an athlete more than any other phrase I can think of.
Obviously, it’s intended to agitate a person’s inclination to settle for any manner of excuse and put on the running shoes. Or enter the gym. Or lift the bar one more time. That’s fine.
What I think not fine is the slogan’s built in insulating agent affording the exemption from ever asking the ‘question behind the question.’ The real issue going on in a person’s heart and mind that makes all the difference in the world. I saw this morning yet another advertisement for an over-the-counter FDA approved (big shock coming here) pill that promises to shed the pounds. If I had a penny for every time that lie has been repackaged and resold I’d be a billionaire.
If all it took to transform your physique was to ‘just do it’ we’d be surrounded by transformed physiques because men and women ‘just did it.’ But there are so many interior moving parts in play that promote or prohibit such a work. And most people are entirely unaware to not only that fact but its potency. So I really look forward to entering the arena of physical fitness with a very different and, I think, very challenging proposition: that the mind-body connection is far more powerful toward making a change or far more lethal toward experiencing another failure than anyone is talking about.
More on that another time (soon, I promise).
I’ve been pretty busy lately amping up a number of projects, not least which is the Mind-Bodybuilding eBook and the rest of the coming website. It’s very exciting to see it coming together. We’ve decided to create a podcast which will be available via iTunes and that’s been a lot of fun working through.
The cover design for the eBook is almost done too. I’ll post a screen shot of it sometime in the next few days (if I can stop one-more-thinging it to death, that is).
Have a great day everyone!
Mind-Bodybuilding.com is coming!

We’re getting there, folks.
When I decided last summer to create the MBB web site and actually create a viable product to sell, I actualy did know it was going to be this challenging.
I began training in January of 2006 and saturated myself in my regimen, developing it over time and fine-tuning things, as anyone would. That part’s been easy—getting it out of my head and into a cohesive format, well…that’s been another thing altogether. What with family, work, training, kids, and all the normal Life going on all around…man, what a challenge!
But I’m happy to report that things are speeding up considerably and the launch of the site is on the horizon. With the creation and programming of this blog, we round the bend of what I think is as critical a piece as the actual eBook itself. That is, having a real-world active way to stay in touch with everyone interested in the mind-body connection and its impact on transforming one’s life and, for our purposes specifically, one’s physique.
I’ll be updating this blog regularly and allow it to serve as something like a water cooler while the rest of the site is getting its finishing touches taken care of.
Drop me a note!
